ABOUT MWIB

MWIB (Minorities And Women In Business) magazine is a   national,    four-color, glossy, magazine. MWIB targets the market comprising minority and women as well as veteran business owners and the corporations and organizations that seek to do business with them. Established in the early 80’s as Minorities And Women In Business, MWIB now serves as a media forum for the discussion of issues that impact minority- women- and veteran-owned businesses.

MWIB magazine is an advocate for minority- women- and veteran-owned enterprises which have the greatest capacity to successfully compete for and capture corporate contracts. The publication acts as a conduit between corporate America and the minority- women- and veteran-owned business community.

MWIB magazine provides a media arena that provides insight into what today’s corporations are looking for in a quality supplier and highlights minority- women- and veteran-owned business success stories. The publication contains relevant information that is critical to minority, women, and veteran entrepreneurs; examines legislation and programs designed for minority- women- and veteran-owned firms; and addresses economic development issues that impact this rapidly growing market.

MWIB Magazine has spent over two decades developing a community of minority- and women-owned businesses, corporate and government decision-makers, and institutions of higher learning. In 2007, MWIB hosted the first Madam C.J. Walker Award Celebration & Business Symposium which featured world-class speakers who shared their business expertise and advice.

MWIB followed up by establishing partnerships to expand its reach to the fastest-growing segment of today’s marketplace – the millions of minority and women veterans, 4.5 million of whom live in the United States. The result of our efforts: in October 2008, MWIB, with support from the Department of Defense, co-hosted Diversity Military World Expo 2008 – a two-day event held at the Gaylord Hotel & Convention Resort that included a Diversity-Friendly Job Fair; Seminars; a Drill Competition; Awards Gala; and Military Ball.

In October 2010, MWIB will host S.M.A.R.T. Moves 2010. Held in Washington, D.C., this event will again bring together our community of minority, women, and veteran-owners and corporate and government decision-makers.

L&S Companies, Inc., a wholly minority- and woman-owned and operated corporation, purchased and relaunched MWIB in April 1998.

Our Mission

The mission of L&S Companies, Inc. is to become an invaluable source of news and information for minority and women business owners; and serve as a link between corporate America, government agencies, and educational institutions and the M/WBEs that seek to do business with them.

The L&S Companies, Inc.

The L&S Companies, Inc. is a wholly minority- and woman-owned and operated publishing and communications corporation headquartered in Washington, D.C. The team of L&S Companies, Inc. possesses the requisite knowledge, dedication, and commitment to fulfill the corporate mission with the utmost level of professionalism and the highest quality of service.

Dr. Paula Miller-Lester, President, and CEO Owner of L&S Companies, Inc. says that her corporate background showed her the need for the services that her company provides. “There are very competent and capable business professionals who, with just a little more information, could compete with the so-called best of the best. We want to level the playing field by disseminating useful information that non-minority males are privy to on a regular basis,” said Dr. Miller-Lester.

MWIB (Minorities And Women In Business) magazine is the cornerstone of L&S Companies, Inc. “MWIB is the perfect vehicle for our company. It provides an excellent platform from which we can be a kind of matchmaker between the magazine’s M/W/VBE readers and those firms that can assist them in growing their enterprises,” said Dr. Miller-Lester. “Our readers have what it takes to get the job done. From my perspective, it is a win-win situation.”

Dr. Miller-Lester says that she wants to be an example that one can be successful in business by utilizing God’s principles. “After all,” she says, “The story of Abraham [in the Bible] shows that he was a man who followed God and became an extremely wealthy businessman with lots of employees. If he could do it why can’t I?”
